  • Objectives and content

    The aim of this course is to deepen the knowledge and practice of German or English for French-speaking students, or French as a foreign language (FLE) for non-French-speaking students (see English, German or French as a foreign language subjects).

    Broadening of the lexical field, specific grammatical points, themed lessons, study of various articles and literary works, general culture subjects linked to Anglo-Saxon countries, etc.

  • Entrance terms and conditions

    This course is compulsory for all students in the1st cycle of higher education, and for new students entering directly into the2nd cycle of higher education, with the exception of students in the pedagogy and sound professions departments, and optional for all other2nd cycle students.

    Students of foreign nationality must take the French as a Foreign Language course.

    At least one of the following orientation and exemption tests must be taken at the start of the school year:

    • For pupils of foreign nationality: FLE orientation test (written + oral), specific oral for Erasmus pupils,
    • For students of foreign nationality, if the results of the FLE orientation test authorise them to do so: FLE exemption exam (written + oral)
    • Orientation and exemption exam in English
    • German orientation and exemption exam: 1st course of the new school year

    An invitation to the orientation test will be sent by e-mail. Enrol for the course after finding out the result from the Musicology Department (see the study path corresponding to the discipline).

    Conditions for exemption and automatic exemption

    Students may be exempted from the German or English course without taking a test:

    • Students who have already obtained the CNSMDP Modern Language certificate,
    • Students who have already obtained a German or English award from a higher education establishment (University, Pôle Supérieur, Grandes Ecoles, etc.),
    • Students with a mark of 15/20 or higher in modern language 1 at the baccalauréat,

    Students may be exempted from FLE without taking a test:

    • Bilingual students who speak French as one of their two languages.
    • Former Erasmus students who have already obtained the FLE certificate from the CNSMDP.

    The following may be exempted from the Modern Language course without taking the test:

    • Pupils currently at collège or lycée may be exempted from the modern language course during their studies at the Conservatoire until they obtain their baccalauréat. Students following their schooling by correspondence cannot be exempted.

    All requests must be made online at the time of enrolment.
