IN.TUNE
Selected as part of the "European Universities" program by the European Commission with funding of 8.64 million euros over four years, IN.TUNE brings together 8 institutions of higher education:
- Royal Academy of Fine Arts of The Hague
- Norwegian Academy of Music (Oslo)
- ESMUC - Higher School of Music of Catalonia (Barcelona)
- mdw - University of Music and Performing Arts of Vienna
- University of Arts of Belgrade
- University of Arts of Helsinki - Sibelius Academy
- National University of Music of Bucharest
- Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris
The partners will develop a common strategy for excellence in higher education, research and innovation. They will be based on a large number of existing collaborations, developed and divided into eight areas of work: governance, mobility, educational innovation, research, skills development, social impact, quality assurance and communication.
Their approach addresses tomorrow's educational, professional, digital, social and environmental challenges, and promotes gender equality, diversity, inclusion and sustainable development.
Emilie Delorme, Director of the Conservatoire: " I am convinced that strengthening our links with these institutions will enable us to go much further in sharing best practices and creating innovative programs, but also to take another key step towards the internationalisation of the Conservatoire.
Very few of our former students lead their careers solely in France: we need to support them in developing their network around the world and strengthen their ability to work in an international context.
In addition, we are going through a period of major transformation where we are encountering issues related to governance, students assessment, digital technology, research development, ecological transition, as well as many social issues of equality, diversity and inclusion in particular. I am convinced that we will be stronger in tackling these issues on a European scale, and that we will benefit greatly from the diversity of experience and viewpoints of our partners.
For years, we have been working with them on projects that have become benchmarks in the field of higher music education: ECMA, ECMAster, METRIC, or even the Erasmus hybrid intensive programs. All these innovative projects can now be developed within IN.TUNE, inspiring new changes and enabling us to gain even more in quality.
Our main challenge within IN.TUNE will be pedagogical innovation, a work module coordinated by the Conservatory. As we develop our own online campus, we look forward to exploring the promise of digital learning as a complement to traditional apprenticeships. Interdisciplinary work with dance, audiovisual, theater and fine arts, in partner and associate organizations, will also be essential. Finally, we are confident that all the work carried out by the IN.TUNE alliance, will contribute to the lasting structure within our institution of research, mobility, entrepreneurship and the social impact of our activity."
The "European Universities" initiative
Announced by the President of the French Republic in 2017 in his Sorbonne speech, the European Universities mark a new stage in international cooperation in higher education. In 2023, 7 new projects have been selected by the European Commission, including the IN.TUNE project involving the Conservatoire de Paris. This brings the total number of alliances to 50, involving more than 430 institutions in 35 countries around the world.
Beyond academic excellence, alliances affirm an entrepreneurial spirit and are committed to diversity, sustainable development and the social impact of their actions at local, national and international level. With this in mind, they develop research activities and collaborate with associated partners from the professional sector.
Organizing the Alliance : the Work Packages
The central pillars of the alliance are the 8 work packages; each work package is dedicated to a strategic topic:
Work Package 1 (WP1), coordinated by the Norwegian Academy of Music (Oslo):
The WP aims to establish an effective management framework for the alliance, including a governance structure, decision-making procedures, cooperation agreements as well as monitoring and reporting processes. A working group is tasked with developing a long-term strategy plan for the alliance ("Strategy Working Group").
Work Package 2 (WP2), coordinated by the National University of Music Bucharest:
This WP focuses on developing a common IN.TUNE framework for student and staff mobility and a common e-Learning policy.
Work Package 3 (WP3), coordinated by the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris:
The objective of this module is to develop an IN.TUNE New Educational Format Methodology for creating and testing new collaborative educational formats, offering students flexible and innovative learning paths.
The new educational formats include: 8 joint online courses, 4 hybrid intensive programs, 2 joint modules, and 2 joint programs.
Work Package 4 (WP4), coordinated by the University of the Arts Helsinki – Sibelius Academy:
This work package will develop a common IN.TUNE cooperation framework for research.
Work Package 5 (WP5), coordinated by the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (Barcelona):
This WP will develop an IN.TUNE policy on continuing professional development and innovation in learning and teaching.
Work Package 6 (WP6), coordinated by the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw):
This WP works on creating a common IN.TUNE policy on the following topics:
- Lifelong Learning for professionals
