Singing direction - 2ème Cycle

Pre-selection based on application:

This cycle is open to candidates who meet one of the following criteria:

- holders of a Diplôme national supérieur professionnel de musicien (DNSPM) or an equivalent higher 1st cycle diploma from abroad

- holder of a diploma from the Paris or Lyon CNSMDs

- a student in 2nd cycle studies in piano accompaniment or voice direction at the CNSMD in Paris or Lyon.

Candidates are shortlisted by an internal jury on the basis of an examination of their application. The application must include :

• a copy of the required diploma ;
• a curriculum vitae.

Candidates who do not obtain the full required diploma until the end of the school year may take the competitive entrance exam by submitting a certificate of schooling specifying their situation. If they are successful in the competitive entrance examination, they will not be granted final admission until they have presented the full diploma required, no later than 30 September of their first school year. Otherwise, they will lose the benefit of their admission.

1. Performance on the piano of one or more works from the repertoire required 4 weeks before the date of the test, i.e. 1 January 2024 (published on the Conservatoire website: www.conservatoiredeparis.fr);
2. sight-reading with singer(s) of an excerpt from an opera (2 minutes' preparation in front of the jury).

(Holders of a^1st or^2nd cycle diploma in accompaniment or piano from the CNSMD de Paris or Lyon may be exempted from eligibility at their own request, as may students enrolled on a^2nd cycle diploma in piano, piano accompaniment or vocal accompaniment at the CNSMD de Paris. 1. Performance of one of the opera overtures to be chosen from the following list (candidates must indicate their choice one week before the test, i.e. by 22 January 2024 at the latest, using the appropriate form available below):

2. Sight-reading of an excerpt from a vocal work with singer(s), followed by a 4-5 minute setting with the singer(s) (5 min dressing room with piano);
3. sight-reading of a work for solo piano or an orchestral reduction (2 min preparation in front of the jury) ;
4. choral reduction (5 min with piano);
5. interview in French on the candidate's motivations.

Language certificate

Candidates admitted.es au concours d'entrée en 2e cycle supérieur qui ne sont pas ressortissants d'Etats francophones devront présenter avant le 30 juin précédant leur première inscription au Conservatoire, un certificat émanant d'un organisme agréé par le gouvernement français attestant d'un niveau en langue française au moins égal à B1 dans l'échelle des niveaux communs de référence du Conseil de l'Europe, before 10 December following their first enrolment at the Conservatoire, a certificate issued by a body recognised by the French government attesting to a level of French at least equal to B2 on the Council of Europe's scale of common reference levels.
