Administrative formalities
Tuition fees
Successful candidates must complete their registration formalities online before collecting their student card.
They pay a tuition fee set at 506 euros for 2022/2023. The fee is set by decree by the Ministry of Culture, and may change each academic year. They must also pay 95 euros CVEC (student and campus life contribution) and 15 euros media library fee.
Health insurance
Since the 2018-2019 academic year, all students residing in France (in a regular administrative situation for foreigners) must be affiliated to the health insurance and are therefore covered by the universal health insurance (PUMa). Non-European students must register on the following website: https://etudiant-etranger.ameli.fr
Please note: foreign nationals and French nationals who have left France for more than 6 months will only be covered by the PUMa after 3 months' residence in France. However, EU/EEA students will have their healthcare costs covered by the insurance system of their country of origin. However, remember to bring your European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) with you.
Adopt the right reflexes as soon as you start the new school year!
Coverage of healthcare costs in France
The French health insurance system does not cover all healthcare expenses, but only 70% on average. You can take out supplementary health insurance through an insurance company or a specific insurance plan.
However, if your income is low, you can apply for a complementary health insurance plan which, in addition to covering healthcare costs not fully reimbursed by the health insurance scheme, will enable you to benefit from various social rights, such as the Navigo solidarity pass, which costs less than the Navigo student pass.

CVEC
From the start of the 2018 academic year, all students enrolled in initial training will be liable for this contribution.
It must be paid each year to the Centre Régional des Œuvres Universitaires et Scolaires (CROUS).
The following are exempt from payment:
- Higher education scholarship holders
- Refugees
- Beneficiaries of subsidiary protection
- Asylum seekers with the right to remain in France
Medical examination
A medical examination by the inter-university preventive medicine service is compulsory on entry to higher education.
Foreign applicants: Visa
A - Nationals of the European Union, Iceland, Norway, the Swiss Confederation, Liechtenstein and the principalities of Andorra, Monaco and San Marino
These nationals are exempt from visa requirements. They can stay in France simply by presenting a valid national identity card or passport, with no time limit. They are no longer required to hold a residence permit. They may, however, be issued with a residence permit, provided if there is no threat to public order. This document will be useful for various procedures, such as opening a bank account, applying for housing benefits or taking up a professional activity.
B - Nationals of countries other than those listed in A
I - Before you leave for France - at least three months before your planned departure date
a - You have come to take an entrance exam and the start date of your course at the Conservatoire means that, if you are successful, you can return to your country: you can travel to France on a tourist visa.
If you are successful, you can return to France upon obtention of:
- a long-stay student visa
or
- a long-stay visa, valid as a "student" residence permit, if this is your first stay in France.
b - You have come to take a entrance exam and the start of your lessons immediately follows your admission to the Conservatoire (particularly for 3rd cycle entrance examinations) or it is not possible for you to return to your country and obtain your visa between the entrance exam and the time when, if you are successful, you must start your lessons:
- you must have obtained a short-stay visa, mentioning "concours études" + certificate of success (valid for three months). Only the "concours études" short-stay visa allows you to take the necessary steps to obtain a residence permit without having to return to your own country.
- You should contact the French consulate in your home country to find out how to obtain these visas. One of these visas is required for stays of more than three months.
ATTENTION: A tourist visa does not allow you to regularise your situation once you are in France.
II - Within three months of your arrival in France
You must apply for a visa, whatever your nationality,
- a residence permit marked "student" if you hold a long-stay student visa
or
- a residence permit, if you hold a long-stay visa, valid as a "student" residence permit (this permit will be affixed to your passport). Before you leave for France, the French consulate will give you an "OFII attestation request" form.
To obtain the resident permit corresponding to your visa, please go directly to this site: https://www.service-public.fr/particuliers/vosdroits/F2231
Please note that you will need to have your VISA validated (online) once you are in France: https://www.campusfrance.org/fr/comment-valider-votre-visa-long-sejour-a-votre-arrivee-en-france
To renew your residence permit (at least 3 months before it expires).
