Médiathèque Hector Berlioz
Whether you're a musician, musicologist or simply passionate about music and dance, the Conservatoire's media library is happy to welcome you. The Hector Berlioz media library's collection comprises 300,000 documents: scores, books, manuscripts, methods, periodicals, documentary files, CDs, DVDs and LPs.
This constantly evolving collection can be consulted via the online catalog on the media library portal. To take advantage of the richness of these collections, the consultation room is open to you. For external visitors, simply indicate the day and time of your visit by e-mail to mediatheque@cnsmdp.fr.
The lending area is reserved for Conservatoire students, teachers and staff.
Numerous digital resources can also be consulted on site and remotely: streaming music and videos, online scores, bibliographic databases, bundles of periodicals and encyclopedias... not to mention the many digitized scores and audiovisual archives accessible from the catalog.
The instrumental park
The Conservatoire boasts a rich collection of some 2,000 instruments, including 150 grand pianos and 70 upright pianos. The instrumental park provides teachers and students with pianos, harpsichords, organs, ondes Martenot, harps, violins, percussion instruments, etc. for the Conservatoire's production, teaching and research activities. The instrumental pool provides information, advice and expertise to Conservatoire teachers and students, and manages the provision of instruments for concerts, master classes, recordings and research programs. The instrumental pool also oversees the loan of instruments to the school's students, and makes instruments available on an exceptional basis as part of partnerships between the Conservatoire and other institutions. The instrumental parks are also active in the educational field, offering a technical option for pianist and violinist students to raise their awareness of instrument-making issues and enrich their historical knowledge. The parks regularly welcome visits from school groups.
La revue du Conservatoire
Bringing the researcher and the artist closer together, showing that artistic practice is an act of research, that the artist is a researcher - this is the ambition of the Conservatoire de Paris online magazine, which can be consulted on our website: larevue.conservatoiredeparis.fr
Publications Service
The Conservatoire de Paris editions offer the public privileged access to the wide diversity of research carried out by the establishment's teachers and students, promoting the invention of innovative forms of writing, capable of rendering intelligible and sensitive the reflection of musicians and dancers on their performance and creative practices. The catalog, which brings together a variety of editorial objects (paper works, digital works, multimedia web-documents, sound recordings, documentary DVDs, etc.), weaves together three inseparable threads of the Conservatoire's identity: the institution's heritage memory, the challenges of teaching and transmission, and the inclusion of musicians and dancers from the Conservatoire in the contemporary artistic landscape through creation.

Audiovisual department
The main function of the Audiovisual Department is to support teaching by providing students and teachers with simple or more complex audiovisual tools, and helping them to use them. This enables students to familiarize themselves with various audio and video techniques. It provides recording, sound and filming facilities for events organised as part of the Conservatoire's programming, or for programmes required for teaching, career guidance and promotion of students and the establishment. An important part of the department's work also involves providing day-to-day support to students enrolled in the "Formation supérieure aux métiers du son et de l'image" programme, particularly in their mastery of audiovisual tools. It is also a forum for reflection and research on sound recording and broadcasting techniques in relation to new technologies and new media, particularly in the field of multichannel and 3D sound. In collaboration with the Éditions du Conservatoire and the Formation supérieure aux métiers du son et de l'image, it participates in the publication of audio and video products promoting the students and the establishment. It is also responsible for selecting and implementing teaching and professional equipment. As a resource department, it has a large number of sound recording, post-production and mixing facilities, as well as a substantial stock of equipment, which students can use to their advantage.
The missions
Pedagogical assistance
- by providing students and teachers with an audiovisual tool (simple or more complex) and helping them to use it,
- by recording or sounding certain concerts linked to the Conservatoire's programming (dance shows, orchestral concerts, chamber music, mixed music, jazz, etc.),
- specific recording or filming sessions (preparation for international competitions, work by writing classes, etc.).
An important part of the department's activity is the day-to-day assistance given to FSMSI (Formation supérieure aux métiers du son et de l'image) students, particularly in their mastery of audiovisual tools. Students participate in the technical and artistic aspects of the department's productions as sound engineers, artistic directors or computer music producers. They can also, as part of their practical work, make their own recordings of events linked to the programming, or organise work sessions around personal projects.
Help with professional integration
- through specific recordings or filming,
- introduction to various audiovisual techniques,
- training in listening skills,
- raising awareness of the use of the medium for creative, communication and promotional purposes.
Production of audiovisual products
for educational purposes, in conjunction with the Conservatory's programming and in co-production with external partners.
The audiovisual products produced are distributed on physical media (CDs, DVDs) or dematerialized media (streaming platforms, websites). They are used to communicate about teaching activities, the conservatory in general, its history and current events. They are distributed through the conservatory's media library, but are also used by students as promotional and professional tools, or by the institution as a communication tool (Internet, social networks, radio or television broadcasts, etc.).
With the help of the French Ministry of Culture, the Conservatoire has launched a campaign to digitize its audiovisual archives, which will soon be available online on this site and via the Hector Berlioz media library portal.
Equipment
The Conservatoire de Paris boasts an audiovisual infrastructure that is exceptional for a school. Numerous sound recording, post-production and mixing facilities give everyone the opportunity to practice in conditions that enable them to acquire a satisfactory level of practical experience. The Audiovisual Department is responsible for selecting and installing the equipment. This choice is made in consultation with all users (teachers, students and department professionals) to take account of teaching needs and technological developments.
Research and development
The Audiovisual Department is also a forum for reflection and research on sound recording and broadcasting techniques in relation to new technologies and new media, and on the development of digital uses in teaching and artistic production.
