German lyrical diction

Unique of their kind, lyric diction classes are an invaluable resource for performance, enabling singers, piano accompanists, musicologists and conductors to discover the languages used in music, their structural and sound characteristics and their poetic traditions. This linguistic approach makes it possible to grasp the multiple aspects of the relationship between text and music in vocal music.

The German lyric diction course, which places particular emphasis on language as a musical element in composition, combines work on phonetics and pronunciation, translation and understanding of the poetic system, in order to give students the keys to the 'Bühnensprache', the official language used on German stages.

Introduction to choreographic accompaniment

This discipline trains pianists in the specific techniques of accompanying classical and contemporary dance. Depending on their musical background, performers are introduced to or perfect improvisation based on a body shape or suggestion. They also learn to use percussion instruments and electronic instruments, particularly to accompany contemporary dance classes. Accompanying pianists forge their own personal musical aesthetic, and learn to decipher movement as a musical pattern, exploring in depth the relationship between music and dance. Far from limiting themselves to the specific ballet repertoire, pianists learn to adapt the entire musical repertoire to the demands of accompanying movement. The Conservatoire's dance classes and performances are a valuable resource in this respect.
