International networks and projects
With a strong international focus, the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris is committed to global openness and cooperation. As an active member of several international networks, the Conservatoire promotes academic, artistic and cultural exchanges. This involvement helps to strengthen strategic partnerships, promote student and staff mobility, and contribute to the diffusion of knowledge and practices within a worldwide community.
International networks
The European Association of Conservatoires (AEC) federates more than 300 higher music education institutions and is the largest network in this field. As a resource hub and a platform for reflection and exchange, the AEC offers dedicated platforms, working groups and thematic programmes, as well as annual meetings for teaching and administrative staff.
The International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres gathers around 2,000 members in 45 countries worldwide.
The International Association of Schools of Jazz (IASJ) brings together 80 members across 40 countries, organizing annual meetings for professional musicians, students and teachers.
The Audio Engineering Society gathers engineers, researchers, acousticians, educators and students in the field of sound professions.
International Activity
The Conservatoire’s activities are firmly oriented towards Europe and the rest of the world. Some of our study programmes have been developed in collaboration with partner institutions in order to fully integrate the principle of mobility into students’ academic careers.
European Chamber Music Academy - ECMA
The ECMA programme is a collaborative project involving several European higher music education institutions.
The aim of the programme is to offer existing ensembles the opportunity to take part in 3‑ to 5‑day sessions hosted by one of the member institutions.
During these sessions, ensembles benefit from training provided by renowned musicians, as well as lectures, seminars, and excursions.
At the end of these sessions, participants also have the opportunity to perform before wider audiences through concerts, showcases, and recordings.
Each year, prestigious venues (Wigmore Hall, the Ghent Festival, the Liszt Academy in Budapest, the Shanghai Conservatory) host the ensembles for professional concerts that highlight emerging international chamber‑music talents.
ECMA was first funded by the European Commission’s Creative Europe programme, which has notably enabled the creation of an online resource centre.
The participation of chamber‑music ensembles from Paris in these sessions is financially supported by the Conservatoire, thanks to the Meyer Foundation.
ECMAster
ECMaster is a joint degree programme, developed in close collaboration with the European Chamber Music Academy and operated by seven higher education institutions across Europe:
- Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris (CNSMDP)
- Fondazione Scuola di Musica di Fiesole Onlus (SMF)
- Koninklijk Conservatorium, Den Haag (KC)
- Lietuvos Muzikos ir Teatro Akademija, Vilnius (LMTA)
- Norges musikkhøgskole,Oslo (NMH)
- Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester (RNCM)
- Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst, Wien (MDW)
This programme is intended for chamber music ensembles from trio upwards and requires two of the four semesters of study to be completed in two partner institutions of the students’ choice.
European Jazz Master - EUJAM
Five leading European institutions for jazz education — the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, the Jazz Institute Berlin, the Jazz Campus in Basel, the Faculty of Music at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, and the Conservatoire de Paris — jointly offer an innovative programme, the “European Jazz Master” (EUJAM). All students come together each semester for an intensive workshop hosted by one of the schools, and each student also completes two semesters of study at two of the partner's institutions.
Modernizing European Higher Music Education through Improvisation - METRIC
METRIC is a cooperation network bringing together several leading European conservatories as well as the AEC (Association Européenne des Conservatoires), with the aim of modernising higher music education through international collaboration in the field of improvisation.
Through an ongoing process of mutual enrichment, METRIC also aims to place particular focus on genres and styles in which improvisational practice is less developed.
The METRIC network is open to all genres and styles of improvised music, whether stylistic, tonal or modal improvisation, or free improvisation.
Within this framework, joint modules, hybrid intensive programmes (BIPs) and online sessions are organised, bringing together the techniques and creative approaches of 15 institutions within a multidisciplinary perspective.
