Semesters 1 and 2

In DNSP1, students consolidate the fundamentals of classical dance vocabulary (French and Russian in particular), pointe technique for girls and specific male vocabulary for boys, and learn to work with corps de ballet and ensemble. At the end of the year, placement and body alignment are solid skills on which to build if you want to move up to the next class.

An introduction to certain contemporary dance techniques, improvisation and composition, as well as theoretical classes in anatomy and physiology, musical training for dancers and choreographic and artistic culture complete this teaching.

Expected skills :

Ability to assimilate the corrections and the various technical and/or theoretical elements set out by the teachers.

Precise knowledge of the vocabulary of classical dance and its rigorous physical application.

Semesters 3 and 4

In DNSP2, the student deepens her knowledge and mastery of the vocabulary of classical dance (French and Russian in particular) and begins to be able to master increasingly complex combinations, while increasing her possibilities in pointe technique. The student is also beginning to integrate what she has learned into her work on the solo repertoire, using extracts from the classical and neoclassical dance repertoires. The notion of interpretation is explored.

Greater ease in contemporary dance is required. New tools for improvisation, composition and contact dance are introduced. Theoretical and practical courses in dancer-music training, functional analysis of the body in dance movement, somatic practice and choreographic and artistic culture complete this teaching.

Semesters 5 and 6

In DNSP3, the student demonstrates great mastery of the vocabulary and techniques of classical dance. She can grasp different types of classical and neo-classical repertoire and navigate between ensemble movements and solo roles.

Contemporary dance is an integral part of the expected choreographic background, as is the ability to improvise and compose in a personal and unique way.

Knowledge of music and of choreographic and artistic culture is deepened, enabling students to contextualise and analyse their own practice and the different currents and styles they have encountered. Various techniques for preparing for and recovering from exercise are introduced.

Expected skills :

A high level of mastery of the placement, vocabulary and complex technical combinations of classical dance, and the ability to adapt this mastery to different choreographic styles.

Accomplishment of a singular artistic personality and ability to propose different interpretations according to choreographic styles and approaches.

Ability to develop self-evaluation and to analyse the different choreographic styles in which learning takes place.

Musicality - relationship to time, space and musical genre.

Commitment and ability to assert one's presence on a stage or in a dance studio during rehearsals or public performances.
