Repertoire and oral tradition
Through their interpretations and arrangements, jazz musicians have made famous the themes of the great composers active in America in the 20s, 30s and 40s. Over the years, these artists have also written pieces that have become part of the common repertoire of jazz musicians everywhere.
The repertoire course enables students to learn these 'standards' through writing, listening and speaking. The list of tunes includes 'must-haves' from the repertoire as well as more modern pieces.
