Literature and theatre

INFORMATIONS

  • Objectives and content

Based on the study of theatrical texts and the analysis of performances, this course proposes a reflection on the relationship between text and staging, based on a body of work chosen from the Paris theatre season which the students attend. The teaching is linked to the shows chosen and will be adapted to the health situation if necessary (work based on recordings or online creations).

  • Programme
<p>In the first semester, we will focus on the most contemporary works (theatre, dance, performance), analysing works that do not begin as dramatic texts. The major themes (the advent of modern stage direction, dance-theatre, stage writing, documentary materials, etc.) will be explored in order to observe the aesthetic changes of the 21st century.</p> <p> </p> <p>During the second semester, questions relating to literary and theatrical history on the one hand, and the dramaturgy of texts on the other, will be addressed. Taking into account the concrete reality of the stage and its requirements, as well as reflecting on the aesthetics of the performance, will enable students to relate their practice as readers to their practice as spectators.</p>
