Entrance terms and conditions
This course is compulsory for all performing students in the1st Cycle Supérieur (except the Jazz and Improvised Music Department and the Vocal Studies Department). Assessment terms and conditions
CONTINUOUS ASSESSMENT
This takes into account attendance, participation in lessons and marks obtained for various tasks carried out in class or at home.
- In A1, a minimum annual average mark of 12/20 is required to progress to A2. A result of less than 12/20 means repeating the A1 level. At the end of the school year, if the student has obtained an average of less than 12/20, he/she may be invited to take a remedial assessment, which will be marked by a teacher other than the one with whom he/she is registered.
- In A2, continuous assessment accounts for 50% (60 points) of the final mark for the Certificate.
FINAL EXAMINATION A2 Certificate
This accounts for 50% (60 points) of the final mark for the Certificate.
Written tests: May/June
- Guided listening commentary: students listen to two excerpts from different periods and genres, chosen from repertoire ranging from the 17th to the 21st century inclusive, which they must situate and comment on; each excerpt is played three times (marked out of 20). The test takes place on site on a date communicated to the students at least two months beforehand (marked out of 20).
- score analysis with listening to a work or movement (three broadcasts), with particular reference to formal and harmonic criteria. The work will be chosen from the repertoire ranging from the 18th to the 20thcentury (marked out of 40). Work to be completed in 1 week: the texts will be made available in the second half of May and the papers must be returned to the department secretariat by the deadline communicated when the subjects were handed in. Any papers not returned by the deadline will not be marked.
The Certificate awarded after the end-of-year examination is obtained by adding the average mark for continuous assessment in A2 and the mark for the final examination in A2 (total out of 100): the equivalent mark out of 20 must be equal to or higher than 12/20.
It is possible to sit the Certificate examination in the first year of study in Analysis, if the teacher's agreement is obtained or issued before the end of the1st term.
Holders of the Certificat d'Analyse A mention Très Bien, or mention Bien on the advice of their teacher, may join the Analyse B course if they so wish and subject to availability.
Holders of the Certificat d'Analyse A (summa cum laude), subject to their success in the entrance examination for the diploma course, are exempt from semester 1 of the applied musical culture programme in the CA diploma course (cf. the programme of the Pedagogy and Teacher Training Department).
