Contemporary repertoire (Dance)

INFORMATIONS

  • Objectives and content

The main aim is to enable students to test their potential as performers and their versatility through a wide variety of works.

In the preparatory year and DNSP1, the repertoire course focuses mainly on the choreographers Merce Cunningham and Martha Graham, but also on a wider repertoire of modern and contemporary dance thanks to the collaborative work with students in Laban and Benesh notation.

As part of this DNSP2 course, the transmission of elements of the repertoire focusing on German dance will enable students to question the state of the body and the 'virtuosity' specific to this choreographic style. The focus is on Pina Bausch's 'Le sacre du printemps', a major work that opens up a wide range of possibilities in terms of the choreographic material, the relationship to the music, the relationship to the group and the use of space.

In DNSP3, the aim is to explore the diversity of writing processes and to question the 'living' in the notion of repertoire. The works are contextualised in order to discern the issues at stake and the echoes, and the neoclassical and contemporary works are used to find creative sources that will inform their aesthetic.
