The Department of Vocal Disciplines provides training for a wide range of careers in opera: from opera and concert soloists to singers in opera choirs and professional vocal ensembles, as well as teachers, vocal coaches and conductors. Backed by the artistic and pedagogical expertise of over sixty teachers, assistants and accompanists, singers and pianists perfect their technical mastery of their instrument, and acquire the adaptability and versatility essential to the artists of tomorrow. With the emphasis on personal development through artistic practice, the department offers a demanding curriculum, shaped by the personalities of the performers.
How do you present a score to an audience? Particular attention is paid to stage practices, which combine dance, theatre and the Alexander technique with a wide range of participants. At the heart of a particularly rich ecosystem, a wide range of projects are on offer, enabling them to nurture their approach to the collective. This is done both as part of ensembles or polyphonic practices, and in conjunction with other departments, with a view to building their professional networks.
The Conservatoire's first-rate stage productions in partnership with major opera houses (Opéra de Paris, Opéra Comique, Fondation Royaumont, Radio France, Philharmonie de Paris) offer many opportunities to perform in public under professional conditions. Auditions are also regularly organised for a host of leading figures from the artistic world, who are loyal to these encounters with the very best in opera singing.
Finally, an introduction to research helps students to question their own practice and prepare for major events, so as to give them all the tools they need to forge their own unique career path, while encouraging a smooth entry into professional life.
