Objectives and content
The aim of Introductory Year A is to provide access to conducting for students wishing to complete their technical and artistic training in line with their personal and career development.
The introductory year in orchestral conducting (B) is open, on selection, to students who have taken option A, for more specific and in-depth work on orchestral conducting.
Work in both A and B is organised into thematic sessions.
The sessions always include preparatory work at the table, then with 2 pianos, followed by work 'in situation' with the orchestra or with 2 pianos.

Entrance terms and conditions
This optional course is reserved for students of the Conservatoire de Paris, subject to an entrance examination.
Introduction to conducting A :
- Enrolment: at the beginning of the 2nd term, from early January to early February (exact dates to be announced).
Application: curriculum vitae, and a note of motivation relating to the student's main discipline and professional orientation.
- Tests: March 2025
- Day 1 / Eligibility - written tests :
- Cloze dictation ;
- Questions on instruments.
Results will be posted following the deliberations of the eligibility jury.
- Day 2 / Admission:
- Work on and performance of an imposed fragment of work[service from 10am to 1pm] (results posted 8 weeks before) ;
- Interview with the jury[between 2pm and 5pm].
Results posted after the admission jury's deliberations.
Introduction to conducting B:
Admission by decision of the jury following the final exam for Initiation to Orchestral Conducting A.

Assessment terms and conditions
Certificate examinations (A and B) :
At the end of Year 1: Certificate A: May-June
- conducting part of a concert before the jury: date to be confirmed
At the end of Year2: Certificate B:
- Test of orchestral work before the jury: May-June
- Conducting part of a concert before the jury: May-June
Awards :
Certificate with honours (Très Bien, Bien or Assez-Bien).
