Regular training for the choreographic artist

INFORMATIONS

  • Objectives and content

Two disciplines are offered for the regular training of choreographic artists in the second cycle of the Master's programme: classical dance and contemporary dance.

The classical dance course aims to preserve the requirements of the academic discipline while adapting them to serve different bodies with different goals.

Classical dance is approached here, as part of regular training, as a common thread that will run through the two years of the Masters. The aim is not for students to master all the technical and artistic aspects covered in depth in the first cycle of the classical curriculum, but, whatever the student's background in the first cycle, to consolidate the fundamentals: verticality, tone and precision, to revisit the en-dehors and the plié (the pillars of classical technique) in a dynamic vision of postural work.

The challenge will be for everyone, at their own level of practice, to make the vocabulary and grammar of academic dance their own, and to be able to weave direct links between academic dance and their own personal development as plural and multiple choreographic artists.

In the same way, the contemporary dance course enables students to work in depth on several qualities of movement in a body that is available, mobile and dynamic. Bone structure, tonal variations, the use of opposing forces, work on support, the relationship to the floor and the volumetry of a body linked to space are central concepts.

An approach that is at once functional, analytical and interpretative is offered to the performer, providing tools and leading him or her to an embodied gesture. Means are developed to achieve a committed presence in a shared space.

The aim is to nurture intention in a strengthened dialogue between body and imagination, in order to find one's own path and uniqueness.
