Objectives and content
Acquiring and perfecting the many techniques specific to the double bass.
Study of works from the repertoire: sonatas, concertos, etudes, genre pieces, etc.
Awareness and study of works by contemporary composers.

Assessment terms and conditions
1st YEAR HIGH SCHOOL
1st year examination
Time allowed: 25 minutes maximum
- a compulsory etude, posted one month before the exam ;
- a work of your choice, in agreement with the teacher ;
- a maximum of three compulsory orchestral excerpts from the list of "double bass orchestral excerpts" from the sight-reading class, posted six weeks before the examination.
Year2 exam
Duration: 30 minutes maximum
- a compulsory work from the classical repertoire, posted one month before the exam ;
- a work of your choice, in agreement with the teacher;
- a maximum of three compulsory orchestral excerpts from the "double bass orchestral excerpts" list of the sight-reading class, posted six weeks before the exam.
DNSPM final examination
Public recital
Duration: 30 minutes maximum
- a contemporary work of the candidate's choice, in agreement with the teacher ;
- a compulsory work, posted six weeks before the examination ;
- a movement from a solo work in the Baroque style (Johann Sebastian Bach, Hans Fryba, Marin Marais, etc.).
The1st cycle double bass certificate is awarded to students who pass the DNSPM final examination.
The certificate is awarded on the basis of the marks awarded by the jury at the end of the DNSPM final examination.
2nd higher cycle
1st year recital
Non-public recital
Duration: 30 minutes maximum
- a work incorporating contemporary writing methods, to be chosen from list A, or a work of one's choice incorporating contemporary writing methods, in agreement with the teacher
- a programme of your choice, in agreement with your teacher;
- an oral commentary by the jury after deliberation.

Duration: 50 minutes maximum
Free programme
The Prix de Contrebasse is awarded to the student who has won a prize in each of the two recitals in the2nd year of the advanced cycle.
The double bass prize is awarded by the jury for the free recital in the2nd year of the2nd cycle.
