Description :

Applicants must meet the conditions for enrolment at university and hold a diploma rewarding five years of higher education specialising in composition.

Stage 1: Pre-selection on the basis of a dossier by an internal jury
  • a copy of the required diploma ;
  • a curriculum vitae in French, specifying in particular the institutions where the candidate has trained, the teachers with whom he or she has worked, the prizes or other distinctions obtained, etc. ;
  • at least two reference letters from well-known figures in the world of the arts and creativity (languages accepted: English or French);
  • a cover letter in French explaining the applicant's interest in taking this course: approximately 2,500 to 5,000 characters (NB. (NB: the desire to cooperate with other artists and with scientists must be evident and justified in the reasons for applying for this course)
  • a document known as the "thesis proposal" (10 typed pages, maximum 20 pages including visual documents) or a document of another type (audio, video: maximum listening time 15 minutes) presenting the applicant's project and his or her suitability for enrolment in the SACRe doctoral programme. This document may be in French or English.
  • the scores of 5 works composed by the applicant, at least 2 of which must be accompanied by a recording: these works may be written for chamber and/or vocal group and/or soloists and/or ensemble and/or orchestra and/or mixed music and/or electroacoustic music alone.
  • a list of works that the candidate plans to write during his/her training.

N.B.: All the documents to be enclosed must be submitted by the deadline specified in the candidate's section of the competition registration form on the Conservatoire website.

Stage 2: Eligibility: interview with the jury Interview (on site or by videoconference) in French with the jury, lasting approximately 20 minutes and held behind closed doors, focusing in particular on the candidate's motivations and thesis project.
Stage 3: Admission After consulting the applications and the reports drawn up by each institution, an admissions committee made up of a representative of the Vice-Presidency of Research at Université PSL, the management of Doctoral School 540 and the management of the SACRe programme and the Arts Graduate Programme, draws up a list of candidates proposed for the award of a doctoral contract (main list) and may, if necessary, draw up a supplementary list (waiting list). The main list and any supplementary list are submitted to the PSL University Executive Board for approval.
