Character dance
A form of theatrical dance, character dance has accompanied classical dance throughout its history. An expressive and technical dance, the preserve of professionals, it turned to folklore from the 19th century onwards. From then on, it borrowed new steps and bodily expressions from traditional dances.
Character dance is taught in all dance schools, as it is an integral part of the great classical repertoire.
