Objectives and content
Encyclopaedia, research tools and techniques. Introduction to musical rhetoric and the theory of affects. Study of instrumental expression and ornamentation based on the Essays by Johann Joachim Quantz and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach and also on the writings of Friedrich Wilhem Marpurg (1755), Johann Matthesson (1713) and Léopold Mozart (1770), as well as the treatise "A Treatise of good taste in the Art of Music" "London, 1749 ed R. Donigton, New York 1969 by Geminiani".
Visits and research at the Bibliothèque nationale de France, the Musée du Louvre and the Musée de la Musique.

Programme
<p>Each student must give one or more lectures, a commentary on the works, playing according to his or her instrumental discipline, and a rhetorical analysis of a work in the repertoire of his or her instrument.</p>
