  • Objectives and content

    Acquiring reference points for a recording project:

    • understanding and interacting with the acoustics of a venue ;
    • explore the implications of instrument choice;
    • discover the aesthetic and technical vocabulary needed for dialogue with the artistic director;
    • understanding the issues involved in the various phases (preparation, recording, post-production).

    How to work effectively with the sound recording team:

    • knowledge of the role and duties of the artistic director ;
    • knowledge of the management and organisation of the post-production phase;
    • mastery of dialogue with the artistic director.

    Making artistic and aesthetic choices :

    • preparing and constructing artistic and aesthetic choices in relation to the challenges of recording;
    • communicating these choices to the artistic director.

    Organisation

    Linked to the Sound Recording and Artistic Direction course in the Sound Professions department, this course is organised into three sessions.

    1. Preparation (2 hours)

    In the presence of the chamber music teacher, the teacher and the students from the sound engineering department, this session enables the programme to be defined, the artistic and aesthetic choices to be refined and the recording session to be prepared.

    2. Recording (one day)

    Recording of approximately 20 minutes of music (a work or excerpts from a work, defined during the preparatory session).

    3. Post-production session (2 to 3 hours)

    This session provides an opportunity to master the issues involved in post-production work, to ensure a constructive dialogue between the performers and the sound recording team. Prior to this session, the student interpreters will be given a first version of the edit.

    The schedule of sessions is sent to the student interpreters around July. The schedule of sessions is finalised in September.

  • Entrance terms and conditions

    Entry is automatic and compulsory for all students in the first year of chamber music and string quartet -2nd cycle.

  • Assessment terms and conditions

    Validation based on the production of a twenty-minute recording, assessed by the subject teacher and the chamber music teacher.
