Objectives and content
Learn how to improvise vocally in one to four voices on a secular or liturgical monody using different techniques from the Middle Ages and the Renaissance.
Organum guidonien, Organum de l'Ecole Notre-Dame, Gymel, Faux-bourdon, canons in 2 and 3 voices with or without cantus firmus, songs in three and four voices.

Entrance terms and conditions
This course is open to all Conservatoire students (subject to availability). It is also one of the teaching units in the Professional Master's programme in 'The Practice of Medieval Music' at the University of Paris IV-Sorbonne (registration with the university).

Assessment terms and conditions
Oral test:
Performance of pieces prepared in the dressing room and possibly a piece of your choice (4-hour dressing room in small working groups). Each student must be heard in four different techniques, including a solo role.
