Miao ZONG was born in China and began his dance training at the Beijing Dance Academy at the age of 15. After graduating in 1993, he immediately joined the Jeune Ballet de France in Paris.
Throughout an international career spanning more than thirty years, he has performed as a soloist with renowned companies such as the Ballet Nacional de Caracas (Venezuela), the Ballet du Théâtre du Capitole (Toulouse, France), and the Boston Ballet (United States). He has also appeared as a guest dancer with the National Ballet of China and the Ballett Chemnitz (Germany), before joining the Ballet of the Opéra national du Rhin (France) in 2004.
His repertoire encompasses both classical and contemporary works, from Bournonville, Petipa, Rudolf Nureyev, John Cranko, to Béjart, Jiří Kylián, Vicente Nebrada, Rudi van Danzig, Nanette Glushak, Peter Martins, Mark Morris, Lucinda Childs, Maina Gielgud, David Nixon, Heinz Spoerli, Jacopo Godani, Hans van Manen, Nacho Duato, Benjamin Millepied, Johan Inger, Bertrand d’At, Aszure Barton, Bruno Bouché, among many others. He has also participated in international galas alongside world-famous dancers such as Patrick Dupond, Cyril Atanassoff, Marie-Claude Pietragalla, and Ethan Stiefel.
Miao Zong made his choreographic debut in 2004 with the Boston Ballet. Following the success of this creation, he was invited by Peter Martins, then Director of the New York City Ballet and the New York Choreographic Institute, to create several pieces for the prestigious School of American Ballet, founded in 1934 by George Balanchine.
He has also choreographed for the Ballet of the Opéra national du Rhin in collaboration with the Orchestre symphonique de Mulhouse, for the Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida (Miami, USA), and for the Asian Ballet Academy (Malaysia). From 2006 to 2015, he also served as Assistant to the Artistic Director of the Ballet of the Opéra national du Rhin.
He holds both the French State Diploma (DE) and the Certificat d’Aptitude (CA) in dance pedagogy, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Performing Arts from the University of Strasbourg. He currently teaches at the Regional Conservatories (CRR) of Boulogne-Billancourt.
As a guest teacher, he regularly gives masterclasses in France and abroad, including at the Ballet of the Opéra national du Rhin, the CRR of Strasbourg, the Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida (USA), the Basel Ballett (Switzerland), the Asian Ballet Academy (Malaysia), and at the Northwest Minzu University (China).
He is also frequently invited to serve as a jury member for international competitions such as the Miami International Ballet Competition (USA), Je Monte Sur Scène International Dance Competition (Toulouse, France), and the Star of Canaan Dance International Ballet Competition (Hong Kong, China).
