Christopher Brent Murray has been teaching music analysis, music history and research methods at the Paris Conservatory since 2021.
Trained in composition and music theory at the Eastman School of Music (BM) and New York University (MA, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences), he completed a doctoral dissertation in musicology in 2010 at Lumière Lyon 2 University, concerning the development of Olivier Messiaen’s musical language.
He has taught musical analysis at the Université libre de Bruxelles since 2012, where he leads a seminar and supervises the research of musicologists and musicians in the Laboratory of Musicology (LaM).
His work explores various aspects of French and Belgian musical culture, including musical life during the Second World War, the evolution of the professional musician’s career in the 20th century, and the history of teaching at the Paris Conservatory.
