Born in 1980, Julien Le Pape discovered the piano at the age of eight. Admitted to the Paris Conservatory in 1995,
he received most of his training there and was awarded first prize in four disciplines:
piano, chamber music, harmony, and accompaniment. He also took master classes
with Jean-Claude Pennetier, Jean-François Heisser, François-René Duchâble, and Leon Fleisher.
In 1999, he was a finalist in the Clara Haskil Competition in Vevey-Montreux, performing Beethoven's Fourth Concerto
under the conducting of Emmanuel Krivine.
Passionate about performing as both a soloist and chamber musician, Julien Le Pape performs
regularly in Paris (Musée d'Orsay, Salle Pleyel, Eglise et Musée des Invalides, Orangerie de
Bagatelle, Théâtre du Palais-Royal), in France (Festival Radio France in Montpellier, Festival
Chopin Festival in Nohant, Lisztomanias in Châteauroux, Ravéliades in Ciboure, Chartres en plein chant,
Beauvais Cello Festival) and abroad (Hanover, Chopin Society in Vienna, Naples,
Salerno, Aberdeen, Cambridge, Tonhalle in Zurich, Los Angeles, Osaka, Tsuda Hall in Tokyo).
A member of the tm+ ensemble for 18 years, and of the Sésame ensemble, he also performs with orchestras
(Mozart and Rachmaninov concertos, Beethoven's Triple Concerto at the Cité de la Musique,
Mendelssohn's Double Concerto with the Orchestre National d'Ile-de-France), and collaborates on
projects combining theater and music, notably with Didier Sandre, Ludmila Mikael, Fanny
Cottençon, and Shiro Saito.
Julien Le Pape has recorded a solo piano album in Tokyo, dedicated to Debussy and Poulenc,
as well as two albums with trumpet player Romain Leleu (Indesens and Aparté labels).
He recently recorded Ravel's complete instrumental chamber music with
the Sésame ensemble, an album released by NoMadMusic and acclaimed by the press (Choc de Classica, 5
Diapasons).
He also teaches accompaniment and sight-reading at the Conservatoire à
Rayonnement Régional de Boulogne-Billancourt.
