Objectives and content
Acquire the basic elements needed to construct a sound recording methodically.
Learn how to characterise the aesthetics of sound in relation to the repertoire.
Know how to construct a recording project.
Master all the tools and knowledge (theoretical, analytical and aesthetic) associated with sound recording in classical music.
Understand the issues involved in the artistic direction of a recording.
Understand the challenges of editing in classical music and develop confidence in the choice of takes and a sense of how to construct an edit.
Year 1 :
Practical application of knowledge (microphones, sound recording systems, source acoustics, room acoustics, stereophonic listening, etc...).
Year 2:
Introduction to artistic direction. The courses provide an initial overview of knowledge (radiation from musical instruments, constraints linked to the recording location, sound recording aesthetics in relation to the artistic programme).
The courses are then organised around specific sound recording themes linked to the type of ensemble being recorded. Production projects involving sound recording, artistic direction, editing and mixing are then implemented as part of the sessions. In this context, the various aspects and constraints of the discipline are experimented with (preparation and management of the session, post-production).
