  • Objectives and content

    Mastery of the fundamentals. In-depth knowledge of the history of the jazz/electric guitar from its origins to the present day.

    Study of the different musical approaches inherited from this history or currently being developed, with emphasis on the evolution of jazz vocabulary and improvisation.

    Exploration of links with contemporary and other music.

    Development of a working method and an individual musical project leading to a personal approach to the instrument.

    Electric guitar techniques: position, gesture, sound, working with the amplifier, new techniques, effects management.

    Sight-reading: work on deciphering.

    Repertoire: memory, articulation, chord-melody.

    Improvisation: exploring techniques from different eras of jazz.

    Exploring the expressive resources of the electric guitar.

    Learning vocabulary, mastering voice-leading, transcriptions.

    Complementary technical work on jazz (e.g. George van Eps) or classical (Bach, Stravinsky) etudes.
