  • Objectives and content

    The purpose of learning to write is to train the ear, acquire a knowledge of styles and master the various techniques of musical rhetoric.

    Approach to writing techniques in harmony and counterpoint, leading to an introduction to composition B.

    This course is open to all Conservatoire de Paris students, subject to availability.

    Students who have not obtained the 'ear' module of the music training exemption will be admitted only on the advice of the teacher.

  • Assessment terms and conditions

    Examination at the end of the first year:

    8-hour lodge:

    • Bass given in figures (vocal keys) ;
    • Given song (string quartet keys) focusing on dominant sevenths (with and without fundamental).

    Certificate examination:

    1. 4-hour lodge: Bach-style chorale to be harmonised.
    2. 8-hour lodge:
      • Bass given in figures (vocal clefs) in the Baroque style
      • and Classical-style given song (string quartet).
