Introduction to orchestration

Objectives and content
This course is based on the study of the fundamental elements of orchestration, starting with the classical "pair": individual writing of the instruments (tessituras, articulations), balance, formal construction (relationships between successive contrasts).
The reference composers for 2024-2025 are Mozart and Tchaikovsky.
The reference composers for 2023-2024 are Haydn and Ravel
The benchmark composers for 2022-2023 are Beethoven and Bartok
The reference composers for 2021-2022 are Mozart and Prokofiev
Students have weekly classes as well as 'laboratory' sessions.
The required formation is that of the mise en loge (different according to the composer chosen) see below: orchestra by 2 (34 or 37 musicians maximum).

Entrance terms and conditions
This course is reserved for Conservatoire de Paris students enrolled in writing, composition and conducting courses.

Assessment of all work by a jury at the end of the year
