    Knowledge and practice of medieval monody.

    Teaching of the repertoire through reading manuscripts, learning neumes, modality awareness, prosody practice and analysis, in a historically and musically informed interpretation.

    Autonomy in interpreting and choosing pieces for a programme.

  • Entrance terms and conditions

    This course is open to all Conservatoire students (subject to availability).

    At the beginning of the year, a placement test is held during the first class to enable certain students to progress directly to the second year. For these students, only their2nd year marks will be taken into account for validation of the Certificate.

  • Assessment terms and conditions

    1st year :

    • Quick presentation and performance of 2 pieces from the repertoire chosen by the jury from a list of 10 pieces proposed by the student.
    • Semiological exercises (written test)
    • Presentation of the palaeography notebook
    • Modal recognition (written test)
    • Public performance (class concert)

    2nd year :

    • Oral analysis and performance of a piece from the repertoire chosen by the student in agreement with the teacher
    • Interpretation, work and "direction" of 1 or 2 pieces from the repertoire chosen by the Jury from a list of 10 pieces proposed by the student.
    • Reconstruction of a simple piece from a few manuscript sources (written test), followed by an oral presentation of the reconstruction.
    • Presentation of the subject of study
    • Public performance (class concert)

    2 years (direct access to2nd year is conditional on passing the level test during the first course)
