Course objectives and content
Objectives
Acquire expertise in the treatment and use of Benesh writing.
To gain an understanding of the job of Benesh choreographer in a pre-professional situation working with choreographic artists and others.
Consolidate entry into the professional world through work placements in companies and/or with choreographic artists.
Develop versatility in the use of the Benesh system and the ability to adapt to changing artistic contexts.
Acquire a range of skills in the field of transmission, movement analysis, the creation of resources and the documentation of artistic works.
Expected skills
Mastery at a professional level of the grammar, syntax, uses and applications of the Benesh system.
Take an in-depth analytical look at movement, in relation to the concepts of the Benesh system.
Master all the processes involved in creating the score for a complex choreographic work.
Develop a methodology for transmitting and reconstructing a complex choreographic work from the choreographic score.
Be able to contextualise a work and its author, and communicate its characteristic stylistic and aesthetic elements.
Teach Benesh writing (amateur or professional audience).
Basic knowledge of copyright, employment law, administrative procedures directly related to the job of Benesh choreographer, and the design and management of artistic projects.

ENTRY COMPETITION FOR THE 2024/2025 SEASON
Required age: 20 years minimum (the age indicated is understood to be on October1, 2024)

The2nd advanced cycle is aimed at students who wish to deepen their knowledge of Benesh writing, in order to acquire professional-level mastery of the system. The training is based on the skills associated with the job of Benesh choreologist: notating and producing scores, reconstructing and transmitting from scores, and teaching Benesh writing.
The advanced2nd cycle enables students to acquire this threefold qualification and thus become part of a dynamic process of integration, progression or specific professional retraining. The Benesh Choreologist diploma enables students to work as notator-constructors and/or teachers of Benesh writing.
The training is compatible with the pursuit of a professional activity.
Entry requirements :
Level of general education
Baccalaureate or French or foreign diploma accepted as an exemption or equivalent.
For candidates who do not meet these conditions, the director of the establishment, after consultation with the teaching staff, may grant them permission to sit the admission tests, by way of exception and on the basis of a reasoned request from the candidate.
Proficiency in French (B2)
Candidates who are successful in the competition for admission to the2nd cycle who are not nationals of French-speaking countries must, if this is their first enrolment at the Conservatoire, present before 10 December 2023, a certificate issued by a body approved by the French government, attesting to a level of French at least equal to B2 on the Council of Europe's scale of common reference levels.
Level of study in Benesh writing and movement practice required
To hold a diploma in Benesh writing awarded by the CNSMDP.
Or fulfil the following two conditions:
Hold the "Professional Award in Benesh Movement" (120 ECTS).
Have practised dance or another bodily activity (mime, circus, etc.) at a professional level or have a job related to movement.
Tests
The 2nd cycle admission tests take place in two stages.
Submission (via ENT) of an application including a written presentation of the professional projects envisaged, corresponding to one of the four pathways described in the Study Pathway.
Selection on the basis of the application: candidates selected are invited to a test before a jury.
Examination by a jury:
Candidates give an oral presentation of their career plans.
This is followed by an interview with the panel to assess the candidate's motivation and the feasibility and relevance of their plans.
The presentation and the interview are each marked out of 20. The average of the two marks gives an overall mark out of 20. Candidates with an overall mark of less than 10 will be eliminated.
The jury is made up of 3 members, including an expert in Benesh writing.
Following the admission tests and an examination of each candidate's file, the Direction des Études Chorégraphiques, in consultation with the jury, draws up a list of admitted candidates, with a waiting list if necessary.
