Benesh professional projects 2nd cycle 2nd year

INFORMATIONS

  • Objectives and content

The 2nd advanced cycle is designed to provide mastery of the Benesh system and its applications at a professional level. The course, which is recognised as a Master's degree, is based on the skills associated with the job of Benesh choreographer and enables the graduate to work as a notator-constructor (creating choreographic scores, reconstructing and transmitting from scores) and to teach Benesh writing. It includes an introduction to research, leading students to develop a reflective approach to their practice and to open up their thinking to other disciplinary fields (analysis of practices, creative research, fundamental research, etc.).
The 2nd year is essentially devoted to carrying out and finalising two projects in a professional situation chosen by the student: writing a reference score and - as an option - reconstructing and transmitting a work or teaching Benesh notation. Autonomous work is at the heart of this final year of the course, with students receiving individual support from one or more professional Benesh Choreology tutors.
Several group work meetings are organised with the teaching team: these enable students to discuss the problems encountered in the field and to benefit from methodological input or additional teaching (various fields of application of the Benesh system, other writing systems for movement, project design, collaborations, etc.).
Continuous assessment takes place in the 2nd year to assess the student's progress during tutorials, and for research methodology. Assessment is mainly by final examination at the end of the 2nd cycle, during which students present their two project reports to a panel of experts. This examination includes simulations, the nature of which varies according to the course chosen.
Once they have reached this level of training, students must demonstrate their ability to join the community of professional Benesh Choreologists and, more broadly, movement notators.
