    A partnership between the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris and Sorbonne-Université enables Conservatoire students who so wish, and who are admitted to the 1st cycle, to obtain, together with the Conservatoire's 1st cycle diploma, and subject to fulfilling the conditions for enrolment at the university, the Bachelor degree of Music and Musicology from Sorbonne-Université, including the Diplôme National Supérieur Professionnel de Musicien (DNSPM) from the CNSMDP, and validation at the university of four 26-hour courses, spread over four semesters, chosen from the "Domaines musicologiques" teaching units.                                
                                    
    Students are free to choose at which stage of their studies at the Conservatoire (1st or 2nd cycle) they wish to begin this university course.                                
                                    
    Registration and payment of university fees are required to follow the courses.

Entrance exam

Direction d'orchestre (1er cycle supérieur)

Opening date for registration :  10 October 2023

Closing date for registration :  15 November 2023

Description :

The compulsory works can be consulted 8 weeks before the exams in the description of the entrance exam.

Preliminary round - Friday morning, 26 January 2024 (Written: 3 hours) :

  • Dictations in 1 and 2 voices, chord dictation, error detection
  • Analysis questions
  • Scholarship (questions on the orchestra, orchestration, organology, history, etc.)

Results posted: Friday 26 January 2024 from 6 p.m.

Eligibility with orchestra -Monday 29 January 2024:

  • Performance of a compulsory work or excerpt from a compulsory work (published on 4 December 2023). The jury may interrupt the candidates at any time if it considers this necessary. The orchestra's seating plan will be sent out one week before the start of the test.

Results posted: Monday 29 January 2024 from 7 p.m.

Admission with orchestra - Tuesday 30 January 2024:

  • Work on and performance of a compulsory work or excerpt from a work (published on 4 December 2023). The orchestra set-up plan will be sent one week before the start of the test.
  • Interview with the jury(with candidates' CVs and covering letters)

Results posted on Tuesday 30 January 2024 from 6 p.m.

N.B.: Candidates who are successful in the competitive entrance examination for the 1st cycle who are not nationals of French-speaking countries must present, before 30 June preceding their first enrolment at the Conservatoire, a certificate issued by a body approved by the French government attesting to a level of French at least equal to B1 on the Council of Europe's scale of common reference levels.
