Updated 18 March 2025
Each year, the QS World University Rankings compiles a list of the best higher education institutions worldwide. Just unveiled, the QS 2025 ranking once again highlights the Conservatoire de Paris (CNSMDP), which maintains its 3rd position in the Performing Arts category.
With an overall score of 92.3 and 93.1 in the Music category, the Conservatoire de Paris has remained among the top five institutions in this ranking since 2022, further solidifying its status as an institution of excellence on the international stage.
This recognition reflects the exceptional quality of education provided at the CNSMDP, the dedication of its teaching and administrative staff, and the talent of its students and alumni. Among all French schools and universities, the Conservatoire ranks at the top across all disciplines.
How Does the QS World University Rankings* by Subject Work?
Each year, the QS World University Rankings by Subject evaluates higher education institutions worldwide in different disciplines. This internationally recognized ranking is based on several criteria designed to measure the reputation and impact of universities and schools within their respective fields.
Among these criteria, academic reputation plays a central role. It is determined through a survey of 130,000 academics worldwide, who identify the most influential institutions in their disciplines. Meanwhile, employer reputation is assessed by 75,000 recruiters, who evaluate institutions based on the quality of their graduates.
For the field of music and performing arts, which concerns the Conservatory's ranking, the methodology remains similar to that of other disciplines. Although the exact number of voters for this category is not specified by QS, the global survey includes a mix of experts, researchers, and professionals in music and the arts. Employers in this field include cultural institutions, production companies, and organizations linked to the music and performing arts industries.
The ranking also takes into account quantifiable criteria, such as the number of citations per article, which measures the impact of research, as well as the H-index, an indicator of researchers' productivity and influence based on the number of their publications and their scientific reach.
By combining these elements—academic recognition, employability, and research excellence—the QS ranking distinguishes the institutions that shape the global landscape of higher education and research.
*The QS World University Rankings is published by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a British company specializing in higher education analysis. Since 2004, QS has been compiling these rankings based on global surveys of academics and employers, as well as bibliometric data from the Scopus database (Elsevier).
A huge thank you to the entire Conservatoire community for its continuous support and contribution to this success!
