Objectives and content
Teaching focuses on
- training in specific accompaniment techniques, acquisition of the basic vocal and instrumental repertoire.
- developing the ability to enter professional life.
- sight-reading (alone or with partners).
- knowledge and progressive acquisition of the vocal and instrumental repertoire.
- Practice in transposition, continuo, choral and orchestral reduction.
- work with instrumentalists and singers.

Assessment terms and conditions
Year 1 exam
- sight-reading of an instrumental accompaniment, followed by fine-tuning (preceded by a 10-minute practice session with the piano) ;
- transposition of a work with singing to a higher or lower key (preceded by a 10-minute practice session with the piano).
Year2 exam
- deciphering for solo piano and continuo (20-minute practice session with piano) ;
- choral reading in modern or historical vocal clefs (short preparation in front of the jury) ;
- accompaniment of an instrumental work (chamber music or concerto) assigned three days before, chosen from a list of works determined at the beginning of the year. In the case of an orchestral reduction, the student will propose a personal reduction.
1st cycle final exam
Non-public part:
- a reading of a string quartet, string quintet and/or with a transposing instrument ;
- a deciphering of an instrumental accompaniment followed by fine-tuning.
- a reading of parts from transposing instruments (short preparation without piano in front of the jury).
Rounds 1 and 2 are followed by a 20-minute practice session with the piano.
Public part:
- a deciphering for solo piano ;
- a transposition of a work with singing up to the upper or lower major third.
- a free recital lasting approximately 25 minutes:
- performance of a work or excerpt from a symphonic work of the student's choice, worked on during the year and played on the orchestral conductor;
- accompaniment of a vocal work (or excerpt).
Rounds 1 and 2 are followed by a joint 20-minute practice session with the piano.
The1st cycle Superior Accompaniment certificate is awarded to students who pass the final exam of the1st cycle Superior.
The certificate grade is that awarded by the jury at the end of the final examination of the1st cycle.
