INFORMATIONS

  • Objectives and content

    Study and practice the most characteristic rhythmic, harmonic and melodic languages.

    Study of forms. Accompaniment on screen. Group improvisation. Improvisation on given themes or elements. Free improvisation.

  • Assessment terms and conditions

    1st YEAR HIGH SCHOOL

    1st year examination

    Duration: 15 minutes maximum

    Optional examination, at the teacher's request

    • three parts preceded by a 15-minute practice session, without piano. A musical element is imposed for one of these tests. A constraint of style or form is imposed for another of these rounds.

    Year2 exam

    Duration: 20 minutes maximum

    • three rounds preceded by a 20-minute practice session, without piano. A musical element is required for one of these papers. A literary element is required for another of these rounds. One of the three rounds may be a collective improvisation round.

    DNSPM final examination

    Public recital

    Duration: 30 minutes maximum

    1. three parts, one of which is based on a compulsory musical element and the other on a compulsory literary element
    2. accompaniment of a silent film, a dancer, a circus performer or an actor.

    The recital is preceded by a 30-minute dressing room performance, without piano.

    One of the four rounds may be a collective improvisation round.

    One of the four rounds may involve electronics.

    In the case of a test involving the use of an audiovisual medium, this will be communicated three days before the test.

    The HigherCycle Certificate in Piano Improvisation is awarded to students who have passed the final examination of the HigherCycle.

    The grade of the certificate is that awarded by the jury at the end of the final examination of the1st cycle.

    2nd advanced cycle

    1st year recital

    Non-public recital

    Duration: 30 minutes maximum

    1. three rounds of 5 to 10 minutes each, preceded by a 30-minute performance without an instrument, one of these three rounds being in a compulsory form and/or language, with a choice of two ;
    2. an oral commentary by the jury after deliberation.

    In the case of a test involving the use of an audiovisual medium, this will be communicated to the student three days before the test. In this case, the dressing room time is reduced to 20 minutes.

    2nd year recital

    Public recital

    Duration: 40 minutes maximum

    • four rounds of 8 to 10 minutes each, preceded by a 40-minute performance without an instrument, one of these four rounds being in a compulsory form and/or language, the other being a free improvisation on two compulsory themes.

    In the case of a test using an audiovisual support, this is communicated to the student three days before the test. In this case, the time in the dressing room is reduced to 30 minutes.

    The Piano Improvisation Prize is awarded to the student who has won a prize in each of the two2nd cycle recitals.

    The mention for the Piano Improvisation Prize is the mention awarded by the jury for the recital in the2nd year of the2nd cycle.
