Organology: a multidisciplinary approach to the musical instrument
INFORMATIONS
-
Objectives and content
This discipline is based on the examination of musical instruments, their repertoire, iconographic sources and written sources (treaties, patents, commercial administrative archives, press, programmes, correspondence, etc.).
By addressing these different aspects, the organology course places musical instruments in the context of the history of music, social and cultural history and the history of techniques. The course also makes occasional use of other disciplines such as acoustics and cognitive sciences.
