Objectives and content
To provide a general and analytical overview of the development of jazz music from the beginning of the 20th century to the present day.
1st year (90 minutes/week): study of the main trends in jazz music and the styles of its most prominent figures, based on audio recordings, video documents and selected texts.
2nd year (90 minutes/week): more in-depth study of selected trends, soloists or styles: analysis (scores, historical documents etc).

Programme

Assessment terms and conditions
CONTROL EXAMINATION1st year
A 5-page essay on a subject from the year's programme of the candidate's choice, with the teacher's agreement.
Distinction: Very Good, Good, Fairly Good
CONTROL EXAMINATION2nd year
A 10-page essay on a subject of the candidate's choice. Broadcasting of audio and/or video documents is also desirable.
Certificate with Honours: Very Good, Good, Fairly Good
