INFORMATIONS

  • Objectives and content

    Training in the specific techniques of dance accompaniment.

    Preparation for a career as a pianist accompanying dance classes and choreographic performances.

    Improvisation practice within a framework structured by dance, for pianists of an excellent level who have improvisation experience.

    Development of the personal musical aesthetic of dance accompanists.

    Deciphering movement as a musical pattern.

    Analysis of the relationship between music and dance.

    Learning to improvise structured by a carrure or bodily proposal.

    Study of the dance repertoire.

    Role-playing in classical and contemporary dance classes.

  • Assessment terms and conditions

    Year 1 exam

    1. accompaniment of extracts from classical and contemporary dance classes, 40 minutes maximum.
    2. performance from memory of an extract from the ballet repertoire chosen by the jury from a list worked on during the year, 5 minutes maximum.

    2nd year examination

    1. accompaniment of an extract from a contemporary or classical dance class, 50 minutes maximum.
    2. Sight-reading of an extract from the ballet repertoire with dancer(s), 5 minutes.
    3. work with dancer(s) on an extract from the ballet repertoire given one week in advance, five minutes maximum.

    1st cycle final exam

    Non-public part

    Duration: 45 minutes maximum.

    1. accompaniment of an extract from a classical or contemporary dance class ;
    2. repertoire class work (sight reading of an extract from the classical ballet repertoire or work from the contemporary repertoire).

    Public part

    Duration: 45 minutes maximum.

    1. accompaniment of an extract from a dance class, in the speciality not presented in the non-public part of the examination ;
    2. repertoire class work in the speciality not presented in the non-public examination.

    ATTESTATIONS

    Five specific attestations must be validated during the1st cycle; these attestations are issued by the teachers of choreographic accompaniment - main discipline, possibly assisted by another CNSMDP teacher, and are necessary to obtain the1st cycle diploma in choreographic accompaniment.

    Attestation 1: Accompaniment at the beginning of a dance class

    Accompaniment of the barre in a classical dance class and accompaniment of a warm-up in a contemporary dance class (Cunningham technique for example).

    This certificate must be obtained during the first year.

    Attestation 2: Accompanying a dance class

    Accompaniment of the middle of a ballet class and the whole of a contemporary dance class, including workshop work related to the contemporary repertoire.

    This certificate must be obtained during the second year.

    Attestation 3: Workshop work

    Completion of a workshop on the fundamentals of contemporary dance.

    This certificate must be obtained during the third year.

    Certificate 4: Personal project

    Presentation of a personal project with dancer(s) or related to dance.

    Attestation 5: Accompanying a repertoire class

    Supervision of a classical dance repertoire class (adage class, variations class).

    The1er cycle supérieur d'Accompagnement chorégraphique certificate is awarded to students who have passed the final examination of the1er cycle supérieur.

    The grade of the certificate is that awarded by the jury at the end of the final examination of the1st cycle.
