INFORMATIONS

  • Objectives and content

    The course consists of several types of exercise designed to develop your sense of rhythm, your perception of cycles and flow, and your inner 'rubber band'. For example:

    • Transcribing emblematic jazz rhythms.
    • Picking out and noting down rhythms and/or drum patterns in different meters.
    • Working on rates from 1 to 9 and the many possibilities of accents.
    • Studying 3/4/5/6/7/8 groupings on each of these beats.
    • Analysing the claves and pulses of the world's main rhythmic cultures.
    • Study the placement (time feel) of emblematic jazz musicians.

    The course is open to all non-drumming first-year undergraduate students.
