Objectives and content
1st year:
History: the main stages in vocal art from the Middle Ages to Bach, using a number of reference works.
Analysis: terminology and methodological bases; study of the main vocal forms, harmonic languages, stylistic commentary, text-music relationship using analyses of Schubert Lieder, Bach cantatas, Monteverdi madrigals, scenes from Mozart operas, etc.
2nd year :
History: awareness of the main languages of the 20th century and the many facets of vocal art after 1945, based on a number of key works.
Analysis: deepening of knowledge acquired in Year1 through a comparative approach (Schumann/Brahms/Wolf/Mahler songs, songs from Fauré to Poulenc) and analysis of more complex vocal works (2nd Viennese School, Stravinsky, Bartok, etc.).

ASSESSMENT EXAMINATIONS
- Continuous assessment based on regular exercises in harmonic analysis, three analyses spread over the year and a mock examination (all marked out of 20);
- a written exam at the end of the first year: commentary and analysis of one or more works heard and read; identification and commentary of 4 short pieces from all periods of musical history (marked out of 40).
FINAL EXAM
At the end of the 2nd year, students sit the certificate consisting of :
- a continuous assessment based on regular exercises in harmonic analysis, three analyses spread over the year and a mock examination (all marked out of 20);
- a written exam at the end of the year: commentary and analysis of one or more works heard and read; identification and commentary of 4 short pieces from all periods of musical history (marked out of 40).
In its deliberations, the jury takes into account the candidate's academic record. -
Duration of studies
Two years (possibly three, with the option of repeating one of the two years), 2 hours per week (group lessons).
