Italian lyrical diction (singer)

    Notions of phonetics, international phonetic alphabet, listening and recitation work, sung diction
    vocabulary specific to opera and singing, basic notions of grammar and syntax, comprehension of texts.

    Exemption (optional):

    Students may request exemption from group language lessons (vocabulary, grammar, phonetics, syntax) depending on whether they are of Italian nationality or on the level acquired during previous studies, in secondary or higher education. A mark of at least 16/20 in the test is required to obtain exemption. The student may not be exempted from the diction course.

    1st year DNSPM examinations (compulsory):

    The first year of the DNSPM is divided into two semesters. Each student takes an examination at the end of each semester (additional examinations during the semester may be offered by the teachers):

    - 1st semester: a 60-minute written examination and a 10-minute oral examination, both with a coefficient of 1, each marked out of 20

    - 2nd semester: an end-of-year examination (coefficient 2) comprising :

    - a written test, marked out of 20 and lasting 60 minutes, on the acquisition of basic linguistic and phonetic skills

    - an oral test, marked out of 20 and lasting 15 minutes, comprising :

    - 1 short aria of the student's choice, to be translated, recited and sung by heart

    - 1 phonetic reading decipherment

    - 1 spoken deciphering in Italian, without dressing room.

    The 2nd (or 3rd year, depending on the student's level) DNSPM examinations (compulsory):

    The second year of the DNSPM is divided into two semesters. Each student takes an examination at the end of each semester (additional examinations during the semester may be offered by the teachers):

    - 1st semester: a 60-minute written exam and a 10-minute oral exam, both with coefficients of 1, each marked out of 20

    - 2nd semester: the certificate (coefficient 3) comprises an oral test only, marked out of 20 and lasting 20 minutes (10 minutes of sung or spoken extracts in front of the jury and 10 minutes of questions/answers with the jury), prepared in the following way: throughout the year, the student prepares an opera libretto, from among the roles available to him/her and likely to feature among the first engagements of his/her professional career.

    The jury will ask the student to read in Italian another extract from the proposed libretto in which the character chosen by the student is present. The jury will also question the student on his or her understanding of the text (vocabulary, grammar, contextualisation) and the general culture associated with the proposed libretto (in particular the link with literature).

    Examinations for the 3rd year of the DNSPM and the 1st year of the 2nd cycle (compulsory):

    There are no examinations for these years of study: the teaching is validated by a certificate based on the quality of the work provided throughout the year and their attendance.

    Five years of :

    Diplôme National Supérieur Professionnel du Musicien

    1st year :

    - 1h30 group lessons per week

    - cross-curricular lessons in lyric diction and singing (main subject), enabling students to combine the teaching they have received (the lyric diction teachers visit the singing classes once or twice a year).

    2nd year :

    - 1h30 group lessons per week

    - 30 min of weekly individual lessons in lyric diction

    - 30 min class every 15 days on working with an opera libretto

    - cross-curricular lessons in lyric diction and singing (main subject), enabling the student to combine the teaching received (the lyric diction teachers visit the singing classes once or twice a year).

    3rd year:

    - an individual 30-minute lesson in lyric diction, twice a term

    - cross-courses in lyric diction and singing (main subject), enabling the student to combine the teaching received (the lyric diction teachers visit the singing classes once or twice a year).

    2nd cycle Master's degree

    1st and 2nd years :

    - a 30-minute individual lesson in lyric diction, twice a term

    - cross-courses in lyric diction and singing (main subject), enabling students to combine the teaching they have received (the lyric diction teachers visit the singing classes once or twice a year).
