FSMS Orchestration

INFORMATIONS

  • Objectives and content

    To provide students with the technical and musical means to orchestrate and instrument a work originally intended for the keyboard.

    It also aims to introduce them to writing and directing arrangements (instrumental or vocal) produced for film soundtracks, songs, transcriptions, etc.

    Year 1:

    • Piano reduction of symphonic works
    • Introduction to conducting small instrumental ensembles
    • Timbre recognition, analysis and reading of orchestral conductors (from Bach to contemporary music)

    2nd year :

    • Writing arrangements (strings - brass - voice) in a song context
    • Collective recording sessions, arrangement direction, instrumentations, student compositions (instrumental formation defined beforehand).
    • Orchestration (for orchestra in pairs) based on a piano work from the classical, romantic or impressionist repertoire.

    3rd and 4th years :

    • Tutoring for all the students' personal projects (arranging, album production, music for the screen, etc.).
    • Collaboration with the film music option and film schools (FEMIS, ENSAD, LISAA, etc.)

    1st year :

    Written (4 hours)

    Piano reduction of two musical extracts (symphonic or operatic works)

    Classical repertoire / Contemporary repertoire

    2nd year :

    Written (5 hours)

    Orchestration of a piano piece
