Ecriture Benesh: analysis of complex situations/ Further study and contextualised applications - 1st cycle 2nd year

INFORMATIONS

  • Objectives and content

    The 1st cycle in Benesh Movement Notation is designed to provide complementary skills and knowledge for careers related to dance and, more broadly, to the body in movement. The notation classes are taught in a constant to-and-fro between practice and theory: time devoted to performance in movement and transmission alternates with study at the table. Complementary disciplines (musical training, AFCMD, choreographic culture, drawing, etc.) enlighten and enrich the learning of Benesh writing.

    The 2nd year of training enables students to deepen their knowledge of the Benesh system and to tackle the reading and writing of floor movements, duet situations and the elementary theory of group formations. It includes two new subjects: score analysis, to highlight the stylistic elements present in a notation, and applications and teaching tools, to introduce anyone to the Benesh system.

    Students in the 2nd year are assessed in two ways:
    ● by continuous assessment (75%), comparable to the 1st year (practical work, writing dossier, reports, etc.), including several sight notation (in vivo) and score transmission exercises;
    ● by final examination (25%). The student creates the score of a choreographic excerpt, which is assessed by an external jury during the end of 1st cycle examination, during which the student is also observed in a performance situation.
    In the 2nd year, particular attention is paid to developing the student's ability to observe the body in movement, analysing the parameters of movement and its individual characteristics, whether to question their own writing choices or for transmission from a score.
