INFORMATIONS

  • Objectives and content

    Giving orchestral conducting students a grounding in piano playing and tools adapted to the specific nature of their training.

    Learning or perfecting the piano, acquiring or developing sight-reduction techniques (choir and orchestra) and deciphering in an accompaniment situation.

    One hour lesson per week.

  • Entrance terms and conditions

    Compulsory for all students in the1st year of the advanced conducting cycle.

    Students are divided into three groups (beginners, intermediate and advanced).

  • Assessment terms and conditions

    Control exam

    1. a solo piano piece (between 2 and 5 minutes depending on level), chosen in agreement with the teacher, to be played by heart ;
    2. accompaniment of a singer: performance of a continuo fragment chosen from the opera or oratorio repertoire, preceded by a 10-minute performance in the dressing room;
    3. a 4-voice mixed choir reduction in modern keys, prepared 10 days in advance.

    Final examination

    1. a solo piano piece chosen in agreement with the teacher (depending on level), to be played by heart ;
    2. accompaniment of a singer or instrumentalist: sight-reading of a fragment from the vocal or instrumental repertoire, preceded by a 15-minute practice session;
    3. a reduction for an instrumental ensemble including at least one transposing instrument, chosen in agreement with the teacher from among those worked on during the year.
