Baroque transverse flute

The three-year first cycle is the foundation for learning to be a performer and leads to the DNSPM. The teachers, exceptional artists and teachers, guide the students in the development of their practice and their relationship with their instrument. At the end of their studies, students reach a professional level and can perform in a wide range of fields, from solo to orchestral and chamber music. The wide range of fields explored means that they are able to tackle all repertoires, from baroque to contemporary.

Instrumental lessons, which make up a large part of the training, play a central role, enabling each student to develop and express his or her artistic sensibilities. In order to train artists who are open to the world, this teaching takes a broad perspective, combining theoretical aspects (musical training, analysis, history of music) with practical aspects (chamber music and orchestra). Various options can be added to this general curriculum to meet individual aspirations, always with a view to training well-rounded, fulfilled artists. Seminars, lectures and master classes are regularly offered on a wide variety of themes. Performers who so wish can also complete their studies by taking the DE (teacher training) course, or the joint course with Sorbonne University leading to a degree in music and musicology.

Lasting two years, the second cycle offers performers the opportunity to achieve the highest standards in the practice of their art, with autonomy and a critical sense. Through intensive individual and group practice, students are helped to assert and express their artistic personality. The field of exploration is particularly wide-ranging, enabling each student to forge his or her own repertoire, whether as a soloist, chamber musician or orchestral player. The end-of-year recital, the high point of the course, gives each student the opportunity to develop and perform his or her own programme in public. By the end of the course, artists will have the resources they need to continue their development in complete autonomy. The acquisition of essential tools and skills for managing a career and projects is designed to facilitate their professional development.

Orchestral training is also offered through orchestral sessions conducted by guest conductors from the professional world. There is also an introduction to research, including the acquisition of methodology (first year) and personal study work (second year). Various options can be added to this general curriculum, to meet the aspirations of each student, always with a view to training complete and fulfilled artists.

^1st advanced cycle

Advanced training for instrumentalists :

- development of artistic sensitivity and individual and collective technical mastery

- broad cultural training in both practical and theoretical areas (complementary disciplines)

-awareness of the professional context

-Study of the repertoire in correlation with the musicology and organology of each stylistic period.

^2nd advanced cycle

Development of artistic personality ;

Ability to design and perform a recital independently;

Ability to develop and express reflections on one's artistic practice.

Development of the ability to enter professional life.

Research and approach to a broad and personalised repertoire;

Development of a considered and autonomous artistic practice.
Assessment terms and conditions

^1st higher cycle

Examinations

At the end of the 1st year:

- a set of works or extracts from works chosen by the jury from a 30-minute programme drawn from the repertoire worked on by the student during the year. This programme must be submitted to the head of department at least three weeks before the examination;

- an ornamentation test after being placed in a box with instruments.

Duration: approximately 20 minutes.

At the end of the^2nd year:

- a set of works or excerpts from works chosen by the jury from a 40-minute programme drawn from the repertoire worked on by the student during the year. This programme must be submitted to the head of department at least three weeks before the examination;

- an ornamentation test after performance with instruments.

Duration: approximately 25 minutes.

DNSPM final examination

Public examination - Duration: 30 minutes maximum

- a compulsory work; posted 6 weeks before the examination ;

- a programme chosen with the teacher from the repertoire worked on by the student during the year.

This programme must be submitted to the Head of Department at least three weeks before the examination.

The^1st cycle baroque flute certificate is awarded to students who pass the DNSPM final examination.

The grade of the certificate is that awarded by the jury at the end of the DNSPM final examination.

Awards

Examinations: Mention Très Bien, Bien, Assez Bien or radiation.

DNSPM final exam: Pass with honours or failure.

^2nd higher cycle

^1st year recital (not open to the public) :

A recital, lasting a maximum of 40 minutes, consisting of the following:

1) A compulsory concerto or concerto movement; posted 6 weeks before the^1st year recital (duration: approximately 10 minutes).

2) One or more works or excerpts from works in the continuo or obbligato keyboard repertoire, which may include a piece for the instrument without accompaniment (duration: approximately 30 minutes).

The examination programme must be approved by the instrument's teacher. It lasts approximately 40 minutes.

NB: The order in which the pieces are performed is left to the choice of the student, who will also be assessed on the composition and balance of the programme, which must cover a sufficiently wide range of styles.

^2nd year recital (public) :

A free recital, lasting no more than 50 minutes (see specific technical sheet).

Awards

^1st year recital: Mention Très Bien, Bien, Assez Bien or radiation.

^2nd year recital: a Very Good, Good or Fairly Good mark, taking into account both the conception and the performance of the recital.

The Baroque Flute Prize is awarded to the student who obtains an award in each of the 2^2nd year recitals.

The mention for the Baroque Flute Prize is the mention awarded by the jury for the free recital in the^2nd year of the^2nd cycle.
